Rockford, IL (March 16, 2020) – A tragic accident took place on Monday, March 16, 2020. The Rockford Police Department was called and officers were sent to the 2200 block of 15th Street to attend to a one-vehicle collision. There were three occupants in the vehicle, a 31-year-old male from Cherry Valley, IL, a 26-year old male from Byron, IL, and another passenger which was not identified.

Both the 31-year-old male and the 26-year-old male were pronounced dead at the scene. Their full identities have not been released, as the Coroner’s office is waiting until their next of kin are informed of their deaths. The Coroner’s office was contacted at 2:57 a.m. and notified of the deaths.

According to reports, a Chevy Malibu struck a tree and overturned. The Rockford Department’s Traffic Reconstruction Team is investigating. When the investigation is complete, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office will review the findings.

The Winnebago County Coroner’s office has one autopsy that is pending. Toxicology reports will be available in three weeks.

The third passenger, who was not identified other than as a male, was taken to the local hospital for treatment in the emergency room with minor injuries.
